It’s been another amazing field season for our crew at Cape Race, Newfoundland. Here we study the ecology and evolution of small, isolated brook trout populations to assess basic questions about how populations evolve and its relevance for conservation and fisheries management. These questions are not easy to address in most vertebrates; everything is miniature at Cape Race (habitats and the fish), meaning we can comprehensively sample populations in an efficient manner. 2019 marks the 10th summer in a row that our lab has monitored the abundance, life history and habitat characteristics of a large number of trout populations on the Cape. The region is shrouded in fog much of the time but this year it was all sunshine. Have a great summer!
